🍲 Yellow split pea soup
A tasty way to use up the Christmas dinner leftovers.
Hey Soup Enthusiast,
I hope you have had an amazing Christmas, make sure to let us know what soups you have made and eaten for Christmas dinner.
There is a lot of exciting things to come in the new year for the Soup & Sauce community and newsletter but, before we dive in, I want to ask you what your soup & Sauce new years resolution is? Send a reply to this email or let us know on Facebook.
🍲 Today's soup: Yellow split pea soup
This soup is a tasty way to use up the Christmas dinner leftovers. This easy to make soup only takes a few ingredients and therefore it is one of the quickest soups I have ever made. I used the left over gammon from Christmas dinner which was a delight to eat but, it made the soup a little too salty, yet very tasty.

Here is how I would cook it in the future.
📝 Ingredients: Serves 6
Butter
100g Cooked gammon
1 medium onion chopped
1 carrot chopped
1 celery stick chopped
450g Yellow split peas
4 pints of chicken, ham or turkey stock
Salt and pepper
Chopped bacon or crotons to garnish
Optional yoghurt
Recipe
Fry the onion, carrot, celery and gammon in butter until they start to soften.
Add the split peas and stock.
Bring to the boil. Simmer for 1 hour until the split peas are soft.
Blend and add optional yoghurt.
Serve with a garnish of crotons or and bacon.
Make sure to check out the video!
Note 💡 - Make sure the yellow split peas are soft before blending. I used a little more than 4 pints of stock because it was left over from Christmas dinner.
🟡 Ingredient of the week: Yellow split peas
The yellow split peas were the main ingredient so I have chosen them as the ingredient of the week. I challenge you use yellow split peas in your cooking this week. If you make a soup, sauce or soup-based meal, with the ingredient of the week, you could have the chance of featuring in our next Community Showcase!
Food Fact - Yellow split peas are a variant of dried yellow fresh peas and they are an excellent source of plant-based protein, healthy carbs, fiber and many important nutrients. They are an easy way to add more vegetarian meals to your menu.

🌍 Beyond the ladle: Soup news highlights
Better images for the Soup & Sauce newsletter
For Christmas I was gifted a camera light which I found very useful for improving the pictures and videos for soup and sauce.
I also was gifted a soup bowl which is perfect for making the pictures more appealing. Here is a picture with the soup bowl containing the mushroom soup I created for the Christmas dinner starter.

Here is one of todays soup as well for some comparison as the mushroom soup was a phone picture where the Split pea soup was taken with a camera.

Introducing the sauce section of the newsletter
In the upcoming year I have planned to add the sauce section to the newsletter but, I need your help. As I will be slowly introducing the sauce section to the newsletter, I won't have a new sauce or sauce variant to share every week. This leaves me to two options. Either to have a dedicated newsletter for the sauce which could be posted E.G. once a month or to have a sauce section on the soup email whenever I have something to share, weather that be once a week or once a month.
Introducing Savings on soup
As you may have noticed from the charismas challenge I am now using the newsletter to help people who struggle with finance and feeding themselves and their families. Alongside raising awareness and money for fareshere I want to provide a knowledgebase for people to have access to cheap and flavorful soup & sauce recopies.
When you see 💲 in the title you will know the recipe is part of the savings on soup category and the recipe is cheap to make.
General improvements
You may not see much difference yet but we need to add the ingredients before stirring the pot. If you have any suggestions, I would be delighted to hear them. 👍
